But Man, Did I Make Some Mistakes On The Way To The Top!

Okay, I’ll admit it: when you’re sixteen, you don’t want to do anything the right way. In my mind, losing weight took too long, and I wanted results...fast!

Here’s what I tried to ditch the pounds...remember, I was only sixteen!

  • I drank meal replacement shakes for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Yeah, that lasted for about two days – there’s no WAY you can enjoy your life by drinking just liquid calories!
  • I took a few weight-loss pills. Between the jittery hands, racing heartbeat and upset stomach, I chucked those pills right in the trash. That was forty bucks of my hard-earned money that could be better spent elsewhere!
  • I thought that the key to losing weight was to put in tons of hours at the gym – and I was astonished when I only lost a few pounds. It didn’t occur to me that it’s not the amount of time that you put in at the gym...it’s doing a few key exercises the correct way!
  • You know those detox diets, where you can only drink a mix of lemon juice and cayenne pepper. Yup, tried that too...but I’m pretty sure that it lasted for all of one minute!
  • I bought tons of workout videos and tried them all out in my living room...but I got so bored with the repetitive routines that I dropped this habit faster than a hot potato!

"Like millions of other people, my new year’s resolution was to get healthy and get fit, but unlike most people, I made sure to stick to it past the first week. Going into 2009 I hadn’t realized how much weight had crept on me until I stepped on the scale and saw it tipping towards 190, which could explain why the only thing that seemed to fit were leggings.
